About

JJ Dettman is a writer of science fiction, general fiction, and essays. He was born, raised, works, and lives in the Greater Toronto Area. In scope, his stories tend to focus on the smaller moments in life. Sometimes they feature speculative gadgetry, paranormal quandaries, or futuristic what-ifs, in flavours leaning closer to sci than fi. His intuition for science realism is borne from a graduate education in physics and a continuously evolving fascination with the natural world. He owes his love of story to the people who live within it.

His literary inspiration comes primarily from a mix 20th century and contemporary authors such as Alice Munro, Kurt Vonnegut, Ursula K. Le Guin, Ernest Hemingway, Ottessa Moshfegh, Sally Rooney, and David Mitchell.
